Setup tips
- Charge the tracker fully, switch it on and add it in the TRAKITO app before you hide it.
- Place a magnetic tracker on a flat metal surface away from the exhaust. GPS signals pass through plastic and glass but not through metal, so don't bury it deep inside metal parts.
- Set a geo-fence around home or work and turn on Call Alert for movement at night, so a theft wakes you up.
Good to know before you buy
- A tracker needs mobile network coverage to report its position. Deep underground garages can delay updates until the car comes out.
- A plug-in tracker (TRC-820) is easy to install but also easy for a thief to unplug. For theft protection choose a hidden magnetic or hardwired model.
- The remote engine block on the TRC-800 must be installed by a professional and should only be used when it is safe to stop the vehicle.
Questions people ask
Where should I hide a GPS tracker in my car?
Anywhere metal and out of sight works for the magnetic models: under the car on the chassis, inside the bumper, under the spare wheel or behind an interior panel. Avoid hot spots near the exhaust and places where water collects. The TRC-800 is wired in behind the dashboard.
Does a car GPS tracker drain the car battery?
The magnetic TRM-700 series and TRU-600 series have their own battery and do not touch the car's electrics. The hardwired TRC-800 is made for a permanent connection and warns you with a low-voltage alarm if the car battery gets weak.
Is there a monthly fee?
Yes. The first month is included, then plans start from €5.41 per month with a 24-month plan. The plan pays for the built-in SIM, mobile data, the app and alerts. There is no activation fee and no long-term contract.
Can I use a GPS tracker to follow someone else's car?
Only a vehicle you own or have the right to track, and never another adult without their knowledge. Tracking a person without consent is illegal in most European countries. Company cars need a GDPR-compliant policy that tells drivers.
Is an Apple AirTag enough for a car?
An AirTag has no GPS and no SIM. It only updates when an iPhone passes nearby, and it warns phones travelling with it, so a thief is told it is there. A GPS tracker reports on its own, anywhere with mobile coverage.
